The Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Türkiye has received a formal complaint from the National Food Security Processing and Marketing Corp., a Gambian company, regarding alleged fraudulent activities by a Turkish citizen. The complaint accuses Turkish national Emin Çakmak of engaging in fraudulent conduct in a business deal concerning the importation of sugar into the Gambia.
Emin Çakmak, who was introduced to the Gambian company by Hassan Faal, claimed to represent Global Impex and hold significant positions within the Turkish-African Trade Consortium/Conseil, allegedly linked to the Turkish presidency. Çakmak presented himself as the President, and Hassan Faal as the CEO of the Turkish-African Trade Consortium/Council. Together, they issued a guarantee letter under the name of Turkish-African Trade Consortium/Council for the debts of Global Impex U.A. Singapore PTE LTD. Additionally, records from the İstanbul Chamber of Commerce indicate that Emin Çakmak and the owner of Global Impex Singapore are directors of a company named Global Impextr in Türkiye.
The Gambian company, the National Food Security Processing and Marketing Corp, alleges that Çakmak has falsely portrayed himself as part of Türkiye’s state administrative structure, thereby deceiving the company in various ways. They claim to possess documents supporting their allegations and are prepared to present them to the Ministry.
The National Food Security Processing and Marketing Corp. details a contract signed on December 8, 2022, with Global Impex U.A. Singapore PTE LTD for the supply of 12,500 tons of sugar, valued at 4.5 million USD. The contract required a 30% down payment, personally guaranteed by Emin Çakmak. Following the failure to fulfill the contract, the Gambian company terminated the agreement on March 8, 2023, and has since sought a refund of the down payment, which remains unpaid.
The complaint expresses concerns that Çakmak's actions, under the guise of Türkiye’s administrative regulations, may be part of a broader pattern of fraudulent practices affecting other African nations, potentially damaging the reputation of the Republic of Türkiye and its presidency.
The petitioners urge immediate measures to prevent any further misuse of the Turkish state’s name and to maintain the integrity of the presidency. They seek the Ministry’s intervention to stop the alleged criminal activities of Çakmak and his associate, Hassan Faal, and to uphold Türkiye’s international image.
